These
Circa 1950's registers are remarkably heavy duty. This
particular one is one of a kind, but the red and
silver standards
can be fairly easily procured. The tune is fairly complex. I scored this for $35 on an
eBay "buy it now," one of my luckiest purchases.
After extensive debate among my
colleagues at work, my friend Vicki suggested that the
very strange song that this register plays is Mairzy
Doats which you can hear the audio version if you do
a search on google. I've never actually heard, or heard
of this song but I think it's a generational thing from
before my time. Here are the words:
Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey
A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you?
Yes! Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey
A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you?
If the words sound queer and funny to your ear
A little bit jumbled and jivey
Sing, "Mares eat oats and does eat oats
And little lambs eat ivy"
Oh! Mairzy doats and dozey doats and liddle lamzy divey
A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you?
A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you?
You
can see the silver standard version in this 1955 Top Value
Yellow Stamps catalogue (like Green Stamps).
