My first vision of Juliette Benoche was
in "Damage" where she was the objet d’passion of
Jeremy Irons. The audience giggled throughout since neither
seemed capable of causing unrestrained emotion in anyone. She’s
somewhat boyish, and equally stonyfaced. Released from the
constraints of lurid passion, Juliette deserves every bit of her
academy award in The English Patient, which has gathered all the
accolades it needs and won’t be helped or hindered by my own
meanderings.
Truth be known, I think it will be easier for
me to Get on a second watching, and maybe with a review or two
of how it all ties together. Nothing eccentric to say about this
film - just a quiet recommendation. I felt sad, fulsome,
intense, tragic, and balanced. Incredible cinematography.
Suggested Gustatorial Accompaniment: Peanut
M&M’s with Dip size Freetoes. The salt sugar thing runs
chills down my back, and the noisy scenes are sufficient to mask
crunching sounds. Bring lunch since you’ll get hungry during
this three hour movie. Wear loose pants since it’s only
showing at the Nickelodeon which has remarkably uncomfortable
seats.
