Tareyton Cigarette Card featuring 1936 Henry Character by Carl Anderson

Kensitas cigarettes were one of the top brands for many years. Back in the 1930s they were noted for a different and innovative style of promotion. In 1935 they began issuing another classic with great appeal, cards featuring the antics of a mischievous boy called Henry, the invention of well-known American strip cartoonist Carl Anderson, each colour picture being a complete episode in Henry’s life as he gets himself embroiled in some hilarious situations. The company was owned by the American Tobacco Co., and it was the Henry cards which really emphasized the trans-Atlantic connection.

Over an eighteen month period, they produced five different series of fifty Henry cards. These proved hugely popular when issued in the U.S. with Tareyton cigarette. You can't fail to be amused by the fronts, and amazed at the backs which blatantly state that the cigarettes protect your throat against irritation and cough, endorsed by 1004 doctors!

The actual card is 1 15/16" x2.5"
